What is Music Therapy?
Music therapy is a form of therapy that uses music to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals. It is an evidence-based, clinical use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program. Music therapy can be used to improve communication, physical rehabilitation, emotional expression, social skills, and cognitive function. It can be used with individuals of all ages, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, as well as with groups. Music therapy may be used as a standalone therapy or in conjunction with other therapies.

HANNAH'S JOURNEY WITH MUSIC THERAPY
Hannah has always been passionate about advocating for people with disabilities and neurodiversity. As a high school student Hannah spent time with teachers and students in the special education unit and formed lasting friendships. As a student herself having learning disabilities, she enjoyed learning the about different technologies used to help her friends learn.
As she began her collegiate studies, Hannah learned about the field of music therapy. She spent a great deal of time researching and learning about the methods and practices used in this field. Hannah decided to use her time to invest special education coursework to gain more training an knowledge. During her time in college Hannah also observed music interventions, while along gaining knowledge in connecting with licensed music therapists across the country.

Today, Hannah has worked for two years as a music interventionist to provide specialized music services to children, teens, and adults with autism spectrum disorder, as well as children and adults with severe emotional disorders and behavioral disorders. Hannah blends her skills in music education with her training in special education to bring a wholistic approach of using music as tool for an improvement of quality of life. Music interventions can take place in group setting or individual sessions. Hannah forms each session based of the goals of the client(s), whether that be fine motor movement, gross motor movement, social-emotional communication, or general socialization, music therapy can bring about growth and improvement. Currently, Hannah is in pursuit to become a board certified music therapist.
