Hannah's Approach in Music Education
Since Hannah was a child, she has been drawn to music. Singing has always been a passion of hers; it gave her a sense of belonging and solace. Music provided Hannah with the opportunity to express herself in ways that words could not. Hannah believes everyone should have the opportunity to partake in and learn about music. Â
Hannah enjoys teaching and planning lessons with the student in mind. Each student is unique, and she tailors lesson to be best suitable towards the student’s learning style and goals. She aims for students’ individual interests and talents to be valued in our lessons. While promoting creativity, Hannah provides a space that students can increase in their musicianship, as well as confidence. As students develop, the fundamentals of music theory will be applied in their lessons. She values students’ understanding of music, not simple memorization of notes and rhythms. Hannah spurs on her students’ curiosity and engagement in music rather that stifling it and by not answering the difficult questions about music. She holds strong to the belief that skills such as music theory, rhythmic counting and note reading are integral to growth, but can presented in a fun and engaging environment. One of her favorite aspects of teaching is when students begin to understand concepts that they could not prior. Hannah feels it is imperative that students enjoy what they are learning. She hopes to help her students cultivate a passion for music; therefore, her encouragement for students to share their interests with her better informs her what the students may enjoy singing. Considerations of the students’ personalities and musical goals are taken into account when selecting music. Hannah desires that students enjoy learning and exploring music, while developing musical skills they can take with them throughout life.
